Portrait of the Godzilla as a Young Kaiju

Heya Gang. Can you guess what we're reading in Lit? Knowing me I've already mentioned it.. anyhow, we're reading Joyce right now. Thank goodness it's only Portrait. I can't imagine if we actually had to read Ulysses or Finnegan's Wake (spelling on both of those may be off). We've got excerpts from both in our text and boy -- they may be very amazing as experimental novels, but I'll stick with something that's not so stream of conscious but a little more linnear.

Now, I'd like to note for all my complaining about this class, I do have to report, that as much as I stress over this class, I'm doing fine. I have missed 12 out of 400 points as of yet. We have one more essay and our final. I am sure I'll stress about those just as much. I suspect that putting as much effort in as I did will grant similar results. What a lot of work though. 1½ to 2 hours per double spaced page. Maybe that's normal, but then I haven't had to work that hard on a paper in a long, long time until this class.

The fellow who sits behind me is doing the same thing I am... working on the transerrable AA to go into English (Linguistics) at ASU. Too bad neither of us has much time after Lit cause we both have classes, but so far he's given me some good advice as he's further along than I am in the process.

Now if only Japanese would click this term. It's kickin my tush. Doesn't seem to matter how much sense it makes in class, or when I'm going through my workbook pages, she hands out the test and I wonder what I've been doing for the last 4-6 weeks. First term wasn't nearly so rough... and I can't figure why.

Future Studies hasn't been bad, but it's still just strange. A total lack of structure. We just sit and gab about things, or are gabbed at as the case may be. I just wish there was more structure to it because I think it would help most of the class, if in no other way than participation. He cancelled class Friday, guess he's got a flight or somesuch, so tomorrow I've just got Japanese. Friday is also our day when we try and get together our study group (one of many). It's great, everything makes sense then too. We've got a speech we're going to present to class in a couple of weeks. I need to get memorizing that too. Least it'll be fun, it's about scuba diving. I think I disappointed my teacher today when I told her I was less interested in speaking Japanese than learning to read and write it. She really looked kind of pained. I wonder why it is that speaking is so important to her. I would think reading and writing it would be more so since it not only had to deal with all the grammar but has all the kanji and whatnot. *shrug*

Don't forget conference this weekend... and so many of you have to change your clocks! Muahahah! AZ is worth living in, if for no other reason, than not falling prey to the idiocy of Daylight Savings.

Until Godzilla Stomps Again!
